# Add vocals

> task=add_vocals — sing over an instrumental clip

Add a vocal to an instrumental clip. `prompt` is the lyric.

`POST /suno/v2/generate` returns `{ "taskId" }`. Poll [Get Task Status](/api-reference/suno/task). Schema: `GET /suno/v2/generate/schema?task=add_vocals`.

## Parameters

| Field | Required | Notes |
| - | - | - |
| `task` | Yes | `"add_vocals"` |
| `model` | Yes | `chirp-v6` recommended |
| `clip_id` | Yes | Instrumental clip |
| `prompt` | No | Lyrics to sing |
| `tags` | No | Vocal style |
