# Add stems

> task=add_stems — layer stems described by stem_control_tags

Add stems onto a clip. `stem_control_tags` is the instruction string (the official capture keeps a trailing space, for example `"add "`). `max_mode` is allowed here — it is rejected only on `gen_stem_two`, `gen_stem_all`, and `sound`. Persona is not used.

`POST /suno/v2/generate` returns `{ "taskId" }`. Poll [Get Task Status](/api-reference/suno/task). Schema: `GET /suno/v2/generate/schema?task=add_stems`.

## Parameters

| `model` | Yes | `chirp-v6` recommended |
| `clip_id` | Yes | Clip to layer onto |
| `stem_control_tags` | No | What to add. Omit and the server sends `"add "` (the trailing space is part of the string) |
